Ministering in Action: Real Life Examples

Real Life Examples of the new LDS Ministering Program

Two Relief Society Sisters Ministering | Mandy's Party Printables: A Guide to Half-E Homemaking

During the April 2018 General Conference, the church announced a change to the Visiting Teaching and Home Teaching Programs of the church. A new holier way of ministering.

With the change, there are many excited people and lots of worry and questions. Oh, so many questions!! As a Stake Relief Society President, I have been diving in head first into these changes and trying to really understand it at it’s core so I can best answer the questions that my ward Relief Society Presidents have.

Most importantly, I want to help equip them to teach their sisters the spirit of ministering. Because it all boils down to making choices that will help you receive personal revelation for how you can best minister to your sisters through the Holy Ghost. Then, going and doing it.

In the meantime, I wanted to start sharing examples of Real Life Ministering in Action. These are examples of ministering that I have seen in my life and others have had in their lives. But, let me issue you a warning: just because other people have done this type of ministering does not mean that this is the way you should do it. The Holy Ghost will guide you. However, information brings inspiration, so you might just get a prompting as you see examples of ministering.

Real Life Ministering in Action

In the picture included in this post, you will see myself (dressed in a black shirt) and my friend Nicole. My friend Nicole knows how much of a milk snob I am. I LOVE Costco milk and think any other milk tastes yuck. However, our closest Costco is a half an hour away (I know, it’s not that bad….) and I really dislike making the journey. Nicole was going to Costco and she called me to see if I needed milk. I did. (I always do.) She picked me up 6 gallons of milk (yes! 6!). When she brought it over and I paid her, I made her take a cheesy picture of her handing it to me because, to me, this is ministering in action!

It’s simple. Nicole was already going to be at Costco. She thought of me and did what would be helpful for me. It was more meaningful to me than a visit, a “hello” at church, or even cookies (though I am happy to have those too!). And get this…she isn’t even my “ministering sister”. She’s my friend. That’s what friends do. We care for each other. We know each other. How can you be a friend to your “ministering sisters”? Do you have an example of how someone ministered to you?
